A Faith Analogy

🔑 Stepping Into the Elevator of Faith
Faith Is More Than Believing
📖 Key Scripture: “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved—you and your household.” — Acts 16:31 (NKJV)
🙏 Opening Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for revealing Yourself through Your creation and, more importantly, through Your Son, Jesus Christ. As we spend a few moments in Your Word today, open our hearts and minds to understand what true saving faith really means. Help us not merely to know about You, but to trust You completely with our lives.
May Your Holy Spirit guide us into all truth.
In Jesus’ precious Name.
Amen.
🌅 Today’s Thought
Many years ago, God used a very simple illustration to draw me back to Him and back to church.
It wasn’t a complicated theological discussion.
It was an elevator.
At first, that may sound rather strange.
Imagine standing in front of an elevator in a tall building.
You believe the engineers designed it correctly. You believe it has carried thousands of people safely. You believe it is capable of taking you to the top floor.
Yet…
As long as you remain standing outside the elevator, your belief changes absolutely nothing.
You never move.
You never arrive.
Your circumstances remain exactly the same.
Then comes the moment of faith.
You step inside.
The doors close.
You place your entire weight upon the elevator and trust it to carry you somewhere you cannot reach on your own.
That is an excellent picture of salvation.
✝️ What Is Salvation?
The branch of theology known as Soteriology studies God’s wonderful plan of salvation.
The Gospel begins with bad news.
Every one of us has sinned.
Sin separates us from a perfectly holy God, and no amount of good works, religion, charity, or effort can bridge that gap.
But God, in His amazing grace, made a way.
Jesus Christ took our sins upon Himself.
He died on the Cross.
He was buried.
On the third day He rose again, defeating both sin and death.
The Gospel is God’s invitation to trust His Son.
Not merely to admire Him…
Not merely to acknowledge Him…
But to place our lives entirely into His hands.
🎨 God Reveals Himself
Creation speaks.
Just as a beautiful painting reveals something about the artist who painted it, creation reveals something about its Creator.
The stars…
The oceans…
The mountains…
Even the smallest flower…
All proclaim the wisdom, creativity, and power of Almighty God.
Creation tells us that God exists.
The Gospel tells us how we may know Him personally.
🚪 The Elevator of Faith
Many people believe Jesus existed.
Many believe He died.
Many even believe He rose again.
Yet biblical faith goes much further.
Faith means stepping into the elevator.
Faith means placing your entire weight upon Jesus Christ.
Faith means trusting Him completely for your salvation.
You stop relying upon yourself…
…and begin relying upon Him.
That is saving faith.
✨ A Question For Today
Are you standing outside the elevator…
…or have you stepped inside?
Belief fills the mind.
Faith commits the heart.
Jesus is still inviting people to step in.
📝 A Short Poem
The Elevator
I stood outside with faith in mind, Yet left true trust so far behind. The doors stood open, strong and wide, But fear still kept me from inside.
Then Christ said softly, “Come with Me; My grace alone will set you free.” I stepped aboard with all my weight, And found His love beyond the gate.
No works could lift my soul above, Only His everlasting love. The journey starts when hearts decide To trust the One who’s standing inside.
📜 Church History
Throughout church history, Christians have emphasized that salvation comes by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone.
During the Protestant Reformation, leaders such as Martin Luther reminded the Church that no one can earn salvation through good works. His rediscovery of the biblical truth of justification by faith became one of the defining teachings of the Reformation.
This truth echoes the Apostle Paul’s words:
“For by grace you have been saved through faith… it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” — Ephesians 2:8–9
🙏 Closing Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for doing what I could never do for myself.
Thank You for dying in my place, rising again, and offering me eternal life.
Help me never to place my confidence in my own strength, but entirely in You.
Teach me to trust You every day, placing the full weight of my life upon Your promises.
May others see my faith and come to know the Saviour who has carried me safely into Your eternal Kingdom.
In Your precious Name I pray.
Amen.
📖 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” — Ephesians 2:8
