The Seeds We Allow to Grow.

๐ŸŒฑ Seeds of Life and Seeds of Death.

๐Ÿ™ Opening Prayer.

_ Father, help us to understand the seeds that are being planted in our hearts.

Help us to recognise the difference between the seed of Your Word and the seeds that seek to corrupt, distract, deceive, and destroy.

Teach us to guard our hearts, to listen carefully to Your Spirit, to stand firm in faith, and to forgive as You have commanded us.

Let the seed of Your Word take deep root within us and produce a harvest that brings glory to You.

In the name of Jesus Christ.

Amen. _

๐ŸŒฑ Introduction โ€” What Are We Allowing to Grow?

When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart.

Matthew 13:19.

When Sir Isaac Newtonโ€™s scientific theory was formulated, I often wonder if he considered that:

โ€œFor every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.โ€

Could this also be applied to spiritual matters?

For instance:

โ€œFor every good seed planted by God, the adversary plants a bad seed.โ€

[This thought came to me while I was creating this devotion. It is not a confession that Newtonโ€™s law is a spiritual law. It is simply something the Holy Spirit brought to my mind at that moment of writing, which caused me to reflect upon the spiritual principle of seeds and harvest.]

Jesus Himself warned that the enemy comes to take away the Word before it can take root.

Luke records it this way:

โ€œThose beside the road are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart.โ€

Luke 8:12.

The battle, therefore, is not merely about what we hear.

It is about what takes root in our hearts.

โค๏ธ The Heart Is the Soil.

When the Bible speaks about the heart, it is not simply referring to the physical organ that pumps blood through our bodies.

Biblically, the heart speaks of the innermost part of our being โ€” our inner life, our desires, our thoughts, our will, and the place from which our actions ultimately proceed.

This makes the question personal.

What seeds are we allowing into our hearts?

The Word of God is a seed of life.

But destructive thoughts, bitterness, hatred, unforgiveness, temptation, fear, and corrupt desires can also take root when we continually entertain them.

James gives us a sobering picture:

โ€œWhen corrupt desire has conceived it gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.โ€

James 1:15.

There is a progression here.

Desire conceives. Sin is born. Sin grows. Death follows.

That is why we should not treat every thought as harmless.

Some thoughts are seeds.

And seeds grow.

๐Ÿ The Seed of the Fall.

The account of Adam and Eve gives us a powerful picture of what happens when Godโ€™s truth is replaced by deception.

The serpent introduced a false word into the conversation.

Adam and Eve accepted that deception, acted upon it, and the consequences reached far beyond the original moment of temptation.

In devotional terms, we can think of this as receiving a corrupt seed โ€” a word contrary to Godโ€™s Word โ€” and then allowing it to take root.

The result was separation, corruption, sin, and death.

The lesson remains relevant.

What we repeatedly accept, believe, entertain, and act upon can shape the person we become.

That is why the battle for the heart matters.

๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ We Have Not Been Left Alone.

Jesus has returned to the Father, but He has not left His people alone.

He promised the coming of the Helper โ€” the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said:

โ€œWhen the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about Jesus.โ€

John 15:26.

And Jesus also said:

โ€œHe will glorify me.โ€

John 16:14.

The Holy Spirit does not draw attention away from Jesus.

He points us toward Jesus.

The Holy Spirit helps us understand truth, reminds us of what Christ has taught us, and strengthens us in our walk with God.

And when we do not even know how to pray, the Spirit helps us.

Paul writes:

โ€œLikewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness.โ€

Romans 8:26.

The Holy Spirit intercedes for Godโ€™s people according to the will of God.

We are therefore not expected to win the battle over our hearts by human strength alone.

God has given us help.

๐Ÿ”‘ Three Keys to Victory.

๐Ÿ”‘ 1. Prayer.

Prayer is not merely something we do after everything else has failed.

Prayer is one of the ways we keep our hearts turned toward God.

When we pray, we acknowledge that God is our source, our strength, and our refuge.

And when we cannot find the words, the Holy Spirit helps us.

Pray before the wrong seed takes root.

๐Ÿ”‘ 2. Stand.

There are moments when we simply have to stand.

Stand upon Godโ€™s Word.

Stand upon what you know to be true.

Stand when temptation comes.

Stand when circumstances contradict Godโ€™s promises.

Stand when the enemy tries to convince you that the seed God planted within you is worthless.

Faith does not always mean moving forward at great speed.

Sometimes faith means refusing to move backwards.

Stand.

๐Ÿ”‘ 3. Forgive.

Jesus connected forgiveness directly with prayer:

โ€œWhenever you stand praying, forgive.โ€

Mark 11:25.

Unforgiveness can become another destructive seed in the heart.

It can grow into bitterness, resentment, anger, and division.

Forgiveness does not mean pretending that wrong never happened.

It means refusing to allow the wrong done to us to become the seed that controls our hearts.

Forgive.

๐ŸŒพ What Are You Sowing?

Paul gives us a simple but profound principle:

โ€œThe person sowing to his own flesh, of the flesh shall reap corruption; and he who is sowing to the spirit, of the spirit shall reap eternal life.โ€

Galatians 6:8.

We cannot continually sow one kind of seed and expect an entirely different harvest.

What are we feeding?

What are we watching?

What are we listening to?

What conversations are we allowing to occupy our minds?

What thoughts are we repeatedly entertaining?

What words are we speaking?

What are we putting into the soil of our hearts?

Every day, we are sowing something.

The question is not whether we are planting seeds.

The question is:

Which seeds are we cultivating?

๐Ÿ‘‚ Pay Attention to What You Hear.

Jesus warned His listeners to pay attention to what they hear.

That is an important instruction for us today.

Not every voice deserves equal access to our hearts.

Not every thought deserves our agreement.

Not every message deserves to become part of our worldview.

When the Holy Spirit reveals something to us through Godโ€™s Word, we should value it enough to act upon it.

And when God gives us an important truth, write it down.

Use an index card.

Make an audio recording.

Create a note on your computer.

Keep a journal.

Record the truth God reveals to you so that you can return to it later.

A seed that is remembered can be cultivated.

A truth that is forgotten can easily be neglected.

๐Ÿ“œ Church History โ€” The Early Church and the Word of God.

The earliest Christians understood that the faith had to be deliberately taught, remembered, and passed from one generation to another.

Before most believers had personal copies of Scripture, Christian teaching was carried through preaching, reading in the gathered church, memorisation, letters, and the testimony of believers.

The early church therefore treated the Word of God as something that had to be received, remembered, guarded, and lived.

That remains an important lesson for us.

We live in an age where information is everywhere.

We can hear thousands of voices every day.

Yet the abundance of information does not automatically produce spiritual wisdom.

We still need to discern what we allow to take root.

The ancient Christian practice of hearing, remembering, meditating upon, and living out Godโ€™s Word remains deeply relevant.

โœ๏ธ Poem โ€” The Seeds We Sow.

A seed falls softly into ground,
Almost unseen, without a sound.
Yet hidden deep beneath the clay,
It waits to grow from day to day.

A word of truth, a word of grace,
Can take within the heart its place.
And when the Spirit gives it light,
It grows through darkness into sight.

But other seeds may also fall,
Through whispered lies and voices false.
A seed of anger, fear, or pain,
Can grow like weeds beneath the rain.

So guard the soil within your heart,
And choose the seeds that you will start.
Let Christ's own Word take deepest root,
And let His Spirit bear the fruit.

For every thought and word we sow,
There is a harvest we may grow.
So sow to Spirit, walk in truth,
And let God's life renew your roots.

๐Ÿ“– Three Scriptures for Today.

1. Matthew 13:19.

โ€œWhen anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart.โ€

Reflection: The Word can be heard without being understood or received. We should ask God to help us understand His Word and guard what He plants within us.

Question: What can I do today to give Godโ€™s Word deeper roots in my heart?

2. James 1:15.

โ€œWhen corrupt desire has conceived it gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.โ€

Reflection: Sin often begins much earlier than the visible action. We need to recognise destructive desires while they are still seeds and bring them before God.

Question: Is there a thought or desire I am allowing to grow that I need to surrender to God?

3. Galatians 6:8.

โ€œThe person sowing to his own flesh, of the flesh shall reap corruption; and he who is sowing to the spirit, of the spirit shall reap eternal life.โ€

Reflection: Our daily choices are acts of sowing. What we continually feed and practise will influence the harvest that follows.

Question: What seed am I deliberately sowing today โ€” one that feeds the flesh, or one that feeds the Spirit?

๐Ÿงญ Practical Application โ€” Guard the Soil.

Today, deliberately examine what you are allowing to take root in your heart.

Ask yourself:

What am I feeding?

What am I listening to?

What am I repeatedly thinking about?

Is there something I need to forgive?

Is the Word of God being given enough room to grow?

Then choose one truth from Scripture that you want to cultivate today.

Write it down.

Read it again.

Pray over it.

Put it somewhere you will see it.

Then act upon it.

Do not merely hear the seed.

Cultivate it.

๐Ÿ‹๏ธ Todayโ€™s Exercise โ€” Plant One Good Seed.

Choose one deliberate act of obedience today.

It might be:

Before the day ends, ask yourself:

What seed did I plant today?

And then ask:

What seed did I refuse to water?

โ˜๏ธ From the Heavenly View.

From our earthly perspective, a seed can look insignificant.

God sees the harvest.

We may not immediately see what a prayer accomplishes.

We may not immediately see what forgiveness changes.

We may not immediately see what happens when we faithfully obey one small instruction from Godโ€™s Word.

But God sees beyond the moment.

Every act of obedience is an opportunity to cultivate something that will bear fruit.

So do not despise the small seed.

Plant it.

Water it.

Guard it.

Trust God with the harvest.

๐Ÿ™ Closing Prayer.

_ Father, thank You for the seed of Your Word.

Help us to recognise the things that are trying to take root in our hearts.

Give us wisdom to reject deception, strength to stand, grace to forgive, and faith to continue praying.

Holy Spirit, help us in our weakness.

Teach us to listen when You speak, to remember what You reveal, and to obey what You teach us.

May the seed of Your Word grow deeply within us.

May our lives produce a harvest of righteousness, love, obedience, and eternal life.

Guard our hearts, Lord.

Let us sow to the Spirit rather than to the flesh.

And may everything that grows within us ultimately bring glory to Jesus Christ.

Amen. _

๐Ÿ’ญ Final Thought.

Every day, seeds are being planted in us.

Some will bring life.

Others can bring corruption and death.

We cannot always control which seeds are offered to us, but we can ask God for wisdom about which ones we receive, which ones we water, and which ones we uproot.

Guard the soil.

Sow to the Spirit.

And let the Word of God take root.
