Become A Zealot

🔥 Stir Up the Fire.

It is Tuesday — Otto’s Monday.

It is cold. It is raining. There is talk that it might even snow.

The grocery cupboard is bare.

Yesterday, what looked like a blessing arrived at the door — only to be discovered as something that had already gone bad. Hope came wrapped in mould.

And yet, this morning, I do not want to sit here staring at the cold.

I want to stir up the fire.

There is too much cold water being poured over the things of God.

Too much apathy.

Too much hesitation.

Too much spiritual sleep.

Too many people who once burned with something inside them, but somewhere along the road they allowed that fire to become an ember.

And I know this because I have done it myself.

I have no need for a bridle this morning.

I need a spur.

I need something that will drive me forward.

I need ZEAL.

Not zeal for recognition.

Not zeal for myself.

Not zeal to prove that I am better than someone else.

I want zeal for the Glory of God.

Where is your zeal?

Have you scorned it?

Have you pushed it aside?

Have you allowed disappointment, hardship, failure, poverty, rejection, exhaustion, or the coldness of the world to extinguish something God once kindled within you?

Then hear the Word of the Lord:

“As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.”

— Revelation 3:19

Notice that Christ does not merely say, try harder.

He says:

Be zealous.

Wake up.

Turn around.

Repent.

Stir up the fire again.

Perhaps your circumstances have not changed.

Perhaps the cupboard is still bare.

Perhaps the rain is still falling.

Perhaps yesterdays blessing turned out to be moldy.

Perhaps you are tired.

Perhaps you are discouraged.

Perhaps you have every earthly reason to sit down and say, I cannot do this anymore.

But the fire of God does not depend upon the weather outside.

The world can be cold while the heart is burning.

The cupboard can be empty while faith remains full.

The road can be difficult while obedience continues.

So today I am not asking God merely to make my circumstances easier.

I am asking Him to make my heart burn again.

Lord, stir up the fire within me.

Where my zeal has grown cold, awaken it.

Where disappointment has buried it, uncover it.

Where sin has quenched it, cleanse me.

Where weariness has weakened it, strengthen me.

And where I have willingly cast it aside, forgive me and call me back.

I urge everyone who reads this:

Desire zeal.

Awake.

Be zealous.

Repent.

Do not be satisfied with spiritual lukewarmness.

Do not let the coldness around you determine the temperature of your soul.

Stir up the fire.

There is still work to do.

There is still truth to proclaim.

There is still a Gospel to preach.

There is still a God to glorify.

And while there is breath in us, let us spend it for Him.

🔥 Lord, set us ablaze again.
