PlebMachine 1.0.0 Release Advisory: A Critical Bug Discovered

We Found the Heart-Stopping Bug in PlebMachine 1.0.0.

A Release Bulletin from the PlebWare Workshop.

PlebMachine 1.0.0 has encountered a serious problem.

During a fresh-user installation test on MX Linux, we discovered that the PlebMachine desktop orchestration system does not initialise correctly.

Two components are functioning:

• PlebMachine User Setup.
• PlebMachine Tools.

However, the heart of the system, PlebMachine Mission Control, does not launch correctly.

The expected 12-workspace environment is also not being established as intended.

So, What Do We Call This?

We could call it a minor bug.

It isn’t.

We could call it a major bug.

That’s closer.

But after discovering that the heart of the desktop orchestration system can fail on a fresh user installation, we’re calling it what it feels like from inside the workshop:

The Heart-Stopping Bug.

More formally, this is a critical release bug.

We Published It Too Soon.

This one is on us.

PlebMachine 1.0.0 was published before sufficient clean-user installation testing had been completed.

That means we released a system that can appear to install successfully while an essential part of its desktop orchestration system is not functioning.

That isn’t good enough.

So we’re putting the brakes on the release while we investigate.

What We Know So Far.

The failure was discovered during testing with a newly created Linux user.

The installation did not produce the expected complete PlebMachine environment.

Working:

• PlebMachine User Setup.
• PlebMachine Tools.

Not working correctly:

• PlebMachine Mission Control.
• The expected 12-workspace environment.
• The complete desktop orchestration process.

This is particularly important because Mission Control is not an optional accessory.

It is the heart of PlebMachine.

What Happens Now?

We are going back into the workshop.

The immediate objective is to determine exactly why the fresh-user installation fails and whether the problem lies in the installation process, permissions, user configuration, desktop integration, workspace creation, or Mission Control itself.

We will then test the corrected system on a clean user installation before considering another release.

No shortcuts.

A PlebMachine release must actually work as a PlebMachine.

To everyone who downloaded or tested PlebMachine 1.0.0, we apologise.

We would much rather discover a problem ourselves before publication.

This time, we discovered it after publication.

That is our mistake.

Thank you to the testing process for exposing it, and to anyone who encounters this failure and helps us understand what is happening.

The project is not abandoned.

The workshop lights are still on.

We’re fixing the machine.

Release Status.

PlebMachine 1.0.0 — WITHDRAWN FOR INVESTIGATION.

Please do not treat the current 1.0.0 release as a dependable production release until a corrected version has been thoroughly tested.

The next release will only be announced after successful clean-user testing confirms that Mission Control, workspace creation, and the complete PlebMachine orchestration system are functioning correctly.

The PlebMachine workshop is open.
