When PlebMachine Went Pink.

๐Ÿงฑ When PlebMachine Went Pink

Pink PlebMachine โ€” a comic about another brick in the wall and the development of PlebMachine.

It Started With a Brick and a Wall.

Every now and then, a perfectly ordinary conversation about software takes a strange turn.

While discussing PlebMachine, ChatGPT observed that the brick and the wall were being laid as far as PlebMachine was concerned.

It was a metaphor for progress: one piece at a time, one problem solved, one component added, one more part of the machine taking shape.

And Then Otto Thought of Pink.

The phrase โ€œanother brick in the wallโ€ triggered a very familiar musical association.

Here we were talking about PlebMachine, and the metaphor involved another brick in the wall.

Ottoโ€™s mind immediately went to Pink Floyd.

That is the entire reason this particular PlebMachine comic became Pink PlebMachine.

From Another Brick to PlebMachine.

PlebMachine really has been built piece by piece.

A script here. A component there. A workspace. A function. A test. A correction. Another test.

Another brick.

The joke and the technical reality suddenly became the same thing.

Otto had supplied the musical association in his head, and suddenly the project had a colour.

Not because PlebMachine technically needed pink.

Because the joke demanded it.

So Naturally, PlebMachine Went Pink.

There was no engineering requirement for a pink PlebMachine.

There was no performance advantage.

There was no Linux configuration setting that suddenly became more efficient because it was pink.

It was simply funny.

And sometimes that is a perfectly good reason to make a comic.

The Wall Was Actually Being Built.

Behind the joke, something rather serious had been happening.

PlebMachine began with experiments, scripts, desktop automation and ideas. It gradually developed into a structured Linux desktop orchestration system.

Cognitive Modes. Automatic Mode. Off Mode. Workspaces. Application launching. Wallpaper management. State recovery. Mission Control. Tools. Gizmo. Package building.

Each part became another piece of the overall system.

Another brick.

And eventually you look at the pieces and realise that you are no longer merely experimenting with a script.

You are building a wall.

The Serious Part Behind the Joke.

PlebMachine was never one enormous program that appeared fully formed.

It evolved through problems, ideas, solutions, experiments and testing.

You start with an idea. Then you start laying bricks.

Eventually, you have a structure.

And the Wall Keeps Growing.

A working version does not necessarily mean the wall has reached its final height.

There are always improvements, tests, refinements and the occasional strange piece of Linux behaviour waiting around the corner.

Which means there is always another brick.

From the Authorโ€™s Desk.

This comic began with a technical discussion and a metaphor about building PlebMachine one piece at a time.

A brick became another brick.

Another brick became a wall.

The wall reminded Otto of Pink Floyd.

And therefore, for reasons that are perfectly logical inside the strange little universe of PlebWare, PlebMachine became pink.

Sometimes software development is engineering.

Sometimes it is architecture.

And sometimes it is just another brick in the wall.
