A hearty, budget-friendly meal that delivers plenty of flavour without emptying the wallet. Perfect for busy days, tight budgets, or when you need something filling and satisfying in a hurry.
π Ingredients
- π₯© 400g Siyabonga Beef Mince
- π§ 1 large onion, finely chopped
- πΆοΈ 4-5 habanero chillies, finely chopped
- π₯ 70β90g Pako Masala
- π§ PnP Boerewors Seasoning (to taste)
- π§ PnP Steak & Chop Seasoning (to taste)
- π 100ml All Gold Tomato Sauce
- π§ Water as required
- πΎ 1β2 tablespoons flour (for thickening)
- π Toasted bread for serving
π¨βπ³ Method
π Step 1 β Build the Flavour Base
- Heat a little oil in a large frying pan or pot.
- Add the chopped onion and habanero chillies.
- SautΓ© until the onions are well browned and fragrant.
π Step 2 β Cook the Mince
- Add the beef mince.
- Break it apart with a fork or wooden spoon.
- Continue cooking until the mince is fully browned and evenly mixed with the onions and chillies.
π Step 3 β Add the Spices
- Sprinkle in the Pako Masala.
- Add the Boerewors Seasoning and Steak & Chop Seasoning.
- Stir thoroughly to coat the mince.
π Step 4 β Create the Sauce
- Add the tomato sauce.
- Pour in enough water to create a rich meat sauce.
- Bring to a gentle boil while stirring.
π Step 5 β Simmer
- Reduce the heat.
- Allow the curry mince to simmer for approximately 20 minutes.
- Stir occasionally and add a little extra water if it becomes too thick.
π Step 6 β Thicken
- Mix the flour with a small amount of cold water to form a smooth paste.
- Stir the mixture into the curry mince.> β οΈ WARNING!
Four habanero chillies may be excessive for some people.
πΆοΈπ₯ Habaneros are extremely hot and can quickly overpower the dish. If you are sensitive to chilli, start with one habanero and increase the quantity in future batches according to your taste.
- Cook for a few more minutes until the sauce thickens to your preferred consistency.

- Serve generously over thick slices of toasted bread.
- Add a little grated cheese if available.
- Enjoy with a mug of tea or coffee for a truly South African budget meal.
