🕳️ A Hole Too Deep for Words
🖋️ Introduction
Some experiences cannot be fully explained with ordinary conversation.
Sometimes circumstances become so overwhelming that facts alone fail to communicate what the heart is carrying. This poem was not written to seek sympathy, nor to provide easy answers. It is simply an honest expression of uncertainty, grief, faith, and the quiet determination to keep moving forward despite not knowing what tomorrow may hold.
📜 The Poem
A Hole Too Deep for Words
Tonight the silence answers me,
More loudly than the world.
The road I travelled faithfully
Has suddenly unfurled.
A faithful truck, my office too,
Now stands in broken rest.
And with it went the income
I depended on the best.
To lose so much is more than cash.
It steals my name, my pride.
It tells me that tomorrow
Has nowhere left to hide.
I've never worn uncertainty
As something I could bear.
It strips away my independence
And leaves me standing there.
I lift my eyes toward Heaven,
Yet Heaven seems so still.
I know my God is listening,
But silence tests my will.
These words were never written
To comfort or inspire.
They rose from ash and weariness,
From desperation's fire.
If this should read like one last plea,
Or one last fragile stand,
It's only that I'm struggling
To understand God's hand.
Then through the heavy quiet
Comes one familiar sound:
Mr. Taylor wants his supper,
His gentle paws on ground.
The final packet waits for him,
A neighbour's gift of grace.
A tiny act of kindness
In this uncertain place.
Perhaps tomorrow still exists,
Though hidden from my sight.
And perhaps the smallest mercies
Still shine against the night.
So I will write.
I will pray.
I will wait.
And though my hands are trembling,
I will not let go of hope.
💭 Reflection
There are moments when words feel inadequate, and yet they remain the only bridge between our hearts and the world around us.
This poem is not about giving up. It is about standing in the middle of uncertainty, acknowledging pain honestly, and still choosing to hold onto hope. Sometimes hope does not arrive with dramatic miracles. Sometimes it appears as a neighbour’s unexpected kindness, the quiet companionship of a beloved pet, or the simple decision to keep writing, praying, and waiting for God to reveal the next step.
Even when Heaven seems silent, faith reminds us that silence is not the same as absence.
✨ Final Thought
“Hope is often at its strongest when it has the least visible evidence.”
No matter how deep the hole may seem today, tomorrow still belongs to God.
