PlebMachine Functional Milestone — August 17, 2026.

PlebMachine Has Reached Functional Completion.

The PlebMachine project has reached an important milestone.

After several days of development, repairs, restructuring, and testing, PlebMachine is now functionally operational.

It is not yet perfect. A couple of minor application-launch glitches remain. However, the underlying architecture is working, the twelve modes are correctly ordered, the state system is functioning, the wallpapers are responding correctly, and the major application integrations have been tested successfully.

More importantly, PlebMachine is now behaving like the system it was designed to become.

Three States, Twelve Modes.

One of the important architectural points that became clear during development is that PlebMachine does not have twelve states.

It has three operational states and twelve cognitive modes.

The three states are:

  1. Off.
  2. Cognitive.
  3. Automatic.

The twelve modes operate within the PlebMachine system.

This distinction is important because the modes represent different working environments, while the states determine how PlebMachine itself behaves.

The twelve modes follow the same conceptual order used by the PlebWare ecosystem and website.

This creates a direct bridge between the Linux desktop environment and the knowledge architecture of PlebWare.

The Off State.

When PlebMachine is switched off, the computer returns to the normal MX Linux desktop environment.

The ordinary MX Linux wallpaper is displayed.

The desktop icons remain available.

The Conky clock remains visible.

Nothing is unnecessarily hidden or altered.

This is important because PlebMachine is intended to be an orchestration layer over the existing Linux desktop, rather than a replacement for the operating system itself.

When the PlebMachine icon is activated, the system can then enter its working environment.

Cognitive Mode.

The Cognitive state provides the user with access to the twelve PlebMachine modes.

The modes are arranged in the correct sequence, matching the established PlebWare structure.

Selecting a mode presents the appropriate confirmation and configuration process.

The system can then move into Automatic operation, where the selected environment is activated.

This separation between selecting a cognitive environment and automatically launching its tools is one of the important principles behind PlebMachine.

The machine is not simply launching random applications.

It is establishing a purpose-specific working environment.

Automatic Mode Is Working.

The Automatic mode has now been successfully tested across the majority of the available environments.

Several important integrations have already been confirmed.

Everyday Mode launches correctly and functions as the default working environment.

AI Helpers launches Firefox and provides the option to select the appropriate browser profile.

Accounting launches GnuCash successfully.

Leisure launches Steam successfully.

The wallpaper system also responds correctly to the selected mode.

This confirms that the underlying state-management and mode-selection architecture is working.

The Wallpaper System Has Been Corrected.

The wallpaper architecture was one of the areas that previously caused considerable confusion.

The final structure now correctly recognises that the wallpapers belong to the twelve modes rather than creating additional PlebMachine states.

The modes can therefore use their appropriate visual environments without expanding the state machine unnecessarily.

The wallpaper changes are now functioning during mode transitions.

When PlebMachine is returned to the Off state, the normal MX Linux desktop wallpaper returns.

This is exactly the behaviour required.

The Remaining Glitches.

PlebMachine is not being declared absolutely perfect yet.

Two minor application-launch problems remain under investigation.

Broadcast Mode changes correctly, but OBS Studio is not currently being launched automatically.

Developer Mode changes correctly, but the terminal is not currently being launched automatically.

These problems are now isolated.

The state machine is working.

The mode selection is working.

The confirmation system is working.

The wallpaper switching is working.

Other application integrations are working.

Therefore, these remaining problems appear to be specific application-launch configuration issues rather than fundamental PlebMachine architectural failures.

The correct approach is to repair these two launch mappings without disturbing the working system.

PlebMachine and PlebWare Are Coming Together.

This development represents something larger than simply creating a convenient Linux launcher.

PlebMachine is becoming the desktop implementation of the PlebWare knowledge architecture.

PlebWare provides the knowledge ecosystem.

The GitHub site provides the publishing and development environment.

PlebVox provides the accessible voice interface for articles.

PlebMachine provides the working environment on the Linux desktop.

These systems are increasingly beginning to fit together as parts of one larger ecosystem.

The relationship between them is no longer merely theoretical.

It is becoming operational.

Almost Ready for GitHub Integration.

The next major milestone is to link PlebMachine more directly with the PlebWare GitHub environment.

The PlebWare GitHub site is already functioning as the publishing platform.

PlebMachine is now approaching functional completion.

The remaining work is primarily integration, final testing, documentation, and the resolution of the small number of remaining application-launch issues.

Once those final pieces are addressed, PlebMachine can move from development into publication.

This means that the PlebMachine project is now almost ready to be published.

A Considerable Amount Has Been Achieved.

Looking back at the development process, the progress is substantial.

What began as an idea for a specialised Linux desktop environment has developed into a functioning system with:

Only a small amount of work remains before the system can move into its next phase.

The Next Step.

The next stage is not another complete redesign.

It is refinement.

The remaining application-launch issues need to be corrected.

The twelve modes need their final verification.

The relationship between PlebMachine and the PlebWare GitHub repository needs to be formalised.

The documentation needs to be completed.

Then PlebMachine can be published as part of the wider PlebWare ecosystem.

The goal is no longer simply to make PlebMachine work.

The goal is to make it ready to share.

A Quiet Milestone.

While PlebMachine has been reaching this important stage, life has continued around it.

Julian, Roxanne, and William are watching Tiger Woods and his son Charlie play golf.

And the developer behind PlebMachine is sitting quietly, tired after a long period of development, testing, repairs, and problem-solving.

Sometimes that is what a milestone actually looks like.

Not fireworks.

Not a launch ceremony.

Just a working machine, a functioning system, and the knowledge that something which once existed mainly as an idea is now becoming real.

PlebMachine is almost ready.

PlebWare is almost ready to connect with it.

And a considerable amount has been achieved.

Conclusion.

PlebMachine has reached functional maturity.

It has three operational states, twelve working modes, responsive wallpapers, automatic application launching, and a structure that corresponds directly with the wider PlebWare ecosystem.

There are still a couple of small glitches.

That is acceptable.

The important achievement is that the architecture has survived development and emerged as a functioning system.

The next chapter is integration.

PlebMachine and PlebWare are almost ready to become two connected parts of the same ecosystem.

The machine is nearly ready for publication.

The workshop is nearly ready to open its doors.

And the work continues.
