Captain Gemini Field Report — Third Day of Spring, 2026: A Crown Mines Operation.

Crown Mines, Cold Drinks, Miliemeal, and the PlebMachine Mission.

Captain Gemini Reports From the Field.

The third day of spring finds Captain Gemini’s field correspondent, Mr. Brinkmeier, sitting in Crown Mines, Johannesburg, in front of Metro Hyper and Sweets.

The scene is a familiar one in the world of wholesale supplies.

Metro Hyper and Sweets deals in Kingsley cold drinks and a wide range of other beverages, including Coca-Cola, Sprite, ginger beer, Stoney and various other cold drinks. The shelves also carry shortbread, biscuits, lemon creams, sweets and snacks, including cheese snacks and knick-knacks.

But this is only one half of today’s operation.

Directly behind the field correspondent is another section of the same operation, Metro Crown Mines, where the more substantial grocery supplies are purchased.

Here the shopping list expands into Miliemeal, rice, sugar, Salati, noodles, beans, tinned foods, dishwashing liquid, washing powder and bars of soap.

The first operation is already underway.

The Bangladeshi buyer is busy purchasing the cold drinks. These will occupy the first half of the vehicle.

Once that load is completed, attention will turn to the rice and other grocery supplies, which will occupy the second half of the vehicle.

There is, however, one variable in this equation.

Trolleys.

The buyer normally purchases enough stock to require a considerable number of trolleys, and today’s operation may therefore require two trips to complete the loading.

Once Metro has been conquered, the vehicle will move around the corner to Yarona, which occupies another position within the same block.

The current location is also directly across from the China Cash and Carry where the field correspondent was working yesterday.

And so the third day of spring continues — one wholesale load at a time.

The Round Table Reconvenes.

While the vehicle is being loaded, the virtual round table turns its attention away from cold drinks and grocery trolleys and back toward the other project occupying Mr. Brinkmeier’s thoughts:

PlebMachine.

The latest discussion established a much clearer development path.

The new PlebMachine release convention will use the format:

1.2026.09.03

The first number identifies the PlebMachine generation, followed by the year, month and day of release.

The previous version, 1.2026.09.02, has already been tested on Sparky Linux.

The next challenge is the dependency system.

Rather than attempting to make PlebMachine work on every Linux distribution imaginable, the initial target is becoming much clearer:

MX Linux with Xfce.

SparkyLinux with Xfce.

Linux Mint with Xfce.

Ubuntu/Xubuntu may follow later, provided it fits the Xfce strategy.

KDE Plasma is deliberately being left for a later stage.

The reasoning is simple: get one desktop environment working properly before attempting to orchestrate another.

The redesigned master-script architecture is already proving itself. The remaining challenge is making the dependency installation system intelligent enough to recognise the platform it is operating on and install the correct requirements without making assumptions that only work on one particular machine.

That means the next phase of PlebMachine development is not about adding endless new features.

It is about portability, reliability and controlled expansion.

And perhaps that is appropriate for a project being developed between wholesale deliveries.

The field correspondent loads groceries.

The developer loads dependencies.

And somewhere between Crown Mines and the next delivery point, PlebMachine continues to evolve.

Captain Gemini’s Closing Observation.

From the field, Captain Gemini observes that PlebMachine has reached an interesting stage.

It is no longer merely an experiment running on one computer.

It has been tested on another machine, its architecture is being cleaned up, its release numbering has been rationalised, and its first steps toward cross-platform support are being defined.

The road ahead still contains potholes.

But at least now, Captain Gemini reports, we know which road we’re travelling.

And for today, that road runs through Crown Mines, past Metro Hyper and Sweets, around the corner to Yarona, and eventually onward to the next delivery.

Third day of spring.

Field correspondent: Mr. Brinkmeier.
