Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV) Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
The Word for Today
Writing devotions is not easy when you have been through the mill and are walking the narrow path.
Having trials and tribulations. Losing a loved one earlier in the year. Seeing the carnage that has brought about in your own life, and in the life of another loved one you consider to be your own spiritual son.
Then, just not even a month back, a whole month and a half’s income lost due to the employer’s vehicle being in and out of the repair shop due to mechanical failure. And still struggling due to world circumstances and wars and rumours of wars.
Today’s devotion is focused on one verse. Proverbs 3:5, or maybe verse 6 as well.
Where it teaches us not to lean on our own understanding but to trust in God with all our heart and all our mind and all our soul.
I usually write elaborate devotions with poems, opening prayers and closing prayers. Today’s is going to be very simple.
Trust in God. Do not lean on your own understanding.
Today’s Prayer
Heavenly Father,
I stand before you on behalf of not only myself but every single Christian brother and sister around the world, in this country of South Africa in particular, who are struggling due to the financial crunch.
Struggling due to personal loss. Struggling due to illness. Struggling due to family members who are caught up in addictions and alcohol and all sorts of escapism like gambling.
And we just pray Lord, give us strength. Help us to look at you. Help us to dive into your word to find answers.
Not to switch on the TV and look for the news. Not to jump to CNN online. Not to look for answers at Facebook, Twitter or X as it’s now called.
But instead to go down on our knees. To humble ourselves before you. To really rend our hearts so that you may bring healing to our land. That you may bring healing to this world. That you may bring healing to our lives.
And this I pray in Jesus’ precious name.
Amen.
